RealWorld Evaluation
A major theme we have addressed during recent conferences has to do with exploring alternatives to the statistical counterfactual.  There are other ways to determine (with varying degrees of relevance and validity) what would have happened within the target population WITHOUT a program's interventions.
First, here is a summary of Alternative Approaches to Counterfactuals  discussed during a think tank session at AEA in Orlando November 2009.

Based on further input received from similar discussion sessions at EES in Prague and AEA in San Antonio in 2010, we've updated the summary of these additional perspectives: Summary of discussion during AEA 2010 session

Further discussion on these topics is welcome using the listserv.  To join write to   We also have a RealWorldEvaluation discussion group on LinkedIn.
